WCAG audits for web developers

Do you build websites, webshops, portals or web applications? Then you want to get digital accessibility right from the start. Not only after delivery, when components have already been reused and changes take more time.

Audit House helps web developers during the development process. We first carry out a pre-test during the build. After go-live, the final WCAG audit follows.

This way you discover accessibility issues at a time when they are still relatively easy to fix.

We speak the language of web developers

Audit House was founded by developers and web builders. That is why we look at accessibility not only from the standard, but also from the practice of design, development, content management and delivery.

We understand how websites are built. We recognise patterns in components, templates, CMS configuration, forms, dashboards, design systems and front-end code. This allows us to explain findings specifically to the people who need to fix them.

That makes our audits practical for your team.

No abstract remarks such as “this is not accessible”, but clear findings with context, impact and a direction for the solution.

Not checking afterwards, but working together during the build

With a traditional WCAG audit, problems are often only discovered after delivery. That leads to extra rework.

That is why we work with web developers using a pre-test during the build and a final audit after go-live. This way we solve problems before they recur in every component and template.

As a partner, we help deliver a website that demonstrably meets WCAG 2.2 AA, with as little extra work as possible.

How the pre-test works

The pre-test takes place on a development, test or acceptance environment. The website does not yet need to be fully populated or live.

We assess the most important parts, such as the header navigation, reusable components and templates, forms, filters and interactive elements.

We discuss the issues found with your team and give practical guidance on how to solve them.

What do you get from the pre-test?

  • the relevant WCAG criterion;
  • an explanation of the problem;
  • the impact on visitors with a disability;
  • the location where the problem occurs;
  • a practical solution, where useful with an example of directly applicable source code.

The pre-test is intended to help your team during the build. It is not yet a formal final report and does not replace the final audit.

Final WCAG audit after go-live

As soon as the website is live and the main content is in place, we carry out the final audit.

During this audit, we assess all 55 success criteria of WCAG 2.2 at level A and AA. The audit is carried out according to the WCAG-EM methodology.

Because many technical elements have already been checked and improved during the pre-test, the final audit usually contains fewer surprises. Your team also already knows how our findings are structured and how any remaining issues can be resolved.

Use the final report for:

  • delivery to your client;
  • internal quality assurance;
  • tenders and quotation processes;
  • drawing up an accessibility statement;
  • demonstrating the accessibility of the website.

We work with

Stay in control towards your client

When the end client commissions an accessibility audit themselves, the report often only surfaces after delivery. The client then receives a list of errors and comes back to the supplier with it.

When you, as a supplier, work with Audit House yourself, you stay in control. You have the website tested independently before accessibility becomes a point of discussion with the client.

That has two important advantages:

Proven quality

First, you can demonstrate that you have delivered professionally. You show that you take accessibility seriously and that you have had the quality of your work independently tested.

Take the burden off your client

Second, you take the burden off your client. The burden of proof does not shift to the client, but is organised by you as the supplier. This strengthens your position as an expert partner.

From finding to ticket

An accessibility report should not disappear into a drawer. Your team must be able to process the findings quickly and practically.

That is why Audit House offers a CSV and JSON export of audit findings. These files can easily be integrated into project management software such as Jira.

This lets you translate findings directly into tickets, user stories, sprint planning and more.
